What to Expect This Week of May 4 - 8
Testing finishes. Hooray! That means we are back to a regular schedule!
Vocabulary Test on all new words from the last three weeks: the "bene-" and "mal-" series of words and
the "-pend" series of words. Be prepared. The test will be on Thursday or Friday.
Bring your cell phones or tablets Thursday and Friday. We'll test using SOCRATIVE. Those who don't have a cell phone or tablet will receive a paper-based test.
We are getting to know the Latin roots of our English language and making useful comparisons to Spanish.
Remember "mal-" means bad or evil; "bene-" means good, and "-pend" means hang.
An epistle is a letter; epistolary fiction is a genre of writing that uses letters, diaries, journals, emails, memos, or other documents to tell a story, rather than the usual narrative.
The writer must do two things that can contradict one another when he or she writes epistolary fiction: 1. He must make his writing look and sound like a letter; 2. she must fit in all the necessary details and dialog to tell the story, and that can require a suspension of belief, because it's naturally tough to remember such fine details.
